amelia walmsley

Amelia Walmsley is a 1.92 m goal shooter and emerging force in New Zealand netball, known for her height, accuracy, and calm presence under pressure. Born in 2004, she joined the Central Pulse full-time in 2022 straight out of Howick College. After limited court time in her debut year, she made a powerful impact in 2023—starting every match, shooting at over 85% accuracy, and quickly becoming one of the ANZ Premiership’s standout performers. Her breakout season earned her a debut for the Silver Ferns against England, where she impressed with confident movement and clinical finishing.

In 2024, Walmsley showed her growing versatility by covering both GS and GA roles, stepping up amid team injuries and refining her playmaking ability. Although sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury mid-season, she returned to help Pulse push towards finals contention. Off the court, she studies communications with a focus on digital marketing and juggles part-time work and coaching—displaying the same discipline she brings to her game. At just 20 years old, Amelia is already shaping into a long-term prospect for the Silver Ferns, combining elite potential with a grounded, thoughtful approach to her career.

Career high: My current career high was my Silver Ferns debut. I debuted in Wellington in front of a full stadium. Playing for the Pulse and it being one of our home stadiums was amazing. It was the second test of the series. We lost the first game. I got told in the airport the next day that I’d been working hard and I was getting the start for the next game. I ended up playing a full match and we won by 21 goals. It was so special. My family were there, I was playing with some of my best friends and idols on court. It was super special.

Career low: 2024 ANZP season was really rough. Experienced my first major injury. Tore my PCL and fractured my tibia, was in a restricted brace non weight bearing and missed 8 rounds of the season. Came back for the last 3 rounds of the season and dislocated both my shoulders in the game deciding if we went straight through to the final. Continued playing and played the final double strapped. But it was pretty intense. In off season I experienced burn out post International Season and was sick for 4 months. I got my tonsils removed and now all good. Lots of challenges. But I overcame them all and although it was a career low, it definitely taught me heaps and bought me to where I am today.
